What is the Tiny Desk AI trend?

Tiny Desk is NPR Music’s long-running concert series, in which artists play small, stripped-down sets behind a desk in an office. Hip-hop sets are among its most watched, from Mac Miller to Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals.

In October 2026, an AI parody put the coaches of losing college football teams into Charlie Wilson’s Tiny Desk performance of “Outstanding”. Within days, people were making AI videos of themselves, their friends and their teams behind the desk, often searched as “Outstanding Tiny Desk AI”.

How the desk concert stage creates the look

The desk concert stage sets the scene: a wooden desk at the front, shelves of books and records behind it, warm lamps, string lights and instruments all around, filmed from the front by a steady camera like a live recording.

Your photo sets each person’s face, hair and outfit. You get a new rap performance inspired by the format, over an original live-band beat, not a copy of any concert. Only the people from your photos appear, so there is no backing band on screen.

Tiny Desk video ideas

A desk concert works best with a clear story and a bit of self-mockery. A few starting points:

• A sad but loyal recap of your team’s Saturday loss.
• Your office team celebrating the end of a long quarter.
• A birthday shout-out from your desk to a friend.
• A study-desk anthem about surviving finals week.
• Two roommates arguing over whose turn it was to do the dishes.

Photos that work best

Use a sharp, well-lit photo of each person, facing the camera. The clearer the face, the more the video has to keep.

• Everyone is an adult who agreed to be in the video.
• Faces are not covered by sunglasses, masks or hands.
• No photos of coaches, players, celebrities or anyone else who has not agreed.
• JPEG, PNG or WebP files of up to 10 MB each.
